HELPFUL HINTS FOR SELLERS
- CURB APPEAL is very important to a potential buyer, so keep the exterior of your home neat and free of clutter. Paint exterior eaves and any peeling paint or siding so the house looks well maintained. Plant flowers and water and mow grass to keep up the appearance. IN WINTER, keep driveway and walkways clear of snow for easy access to front door.
- INTERIOR OF HOME should be inviting upon entry and should be spotlessly clean and free of clutter. It's a good idea to hire a cleaning service to do the initial clean up so the house "shines" and don't forget both sides of the windows. A clean house shows the prospective buyer that you keep a well maintained home. Burned out bulbs in light fixtures should be replaced. Get rid of personal items and pictures in frames that add clutter to tables, desks and dressers. To help add sparkle, bathrooms and vanities should be clean with fresh towels on rods or shelves. A clean look is easier for a buyer to remember your home and the size of rooms. Remove some furniture to make a room look larger. Don't leave dirty dishes in the kitchen sink and clear off counters, make beds and close lids on toilets.
- IF YOU HAVE PETS, post a note or sign stating how many pets and try to restrain them in a garage or pens when a buyer is viewing your home. Place room deodorizers throughout the home to make it smell fresh.
- ALWAYS lock up your valuables, money, prescription drugs and jewelry in a safe or locked drawer/cabinet. A real estate agent should always be with a buyer during a showing but, sometimes two or more people can go in different directions.
- TURN ON LIGHTS before you leave your house , even during the daylight hours; this helps brighten your home when buyers are scheduled for a showing. A seller should vacate the house before a buyer arrives with the real estate agent so the buyer can take their time viewing the home.
